Our teachers put together a little promo video, showed to our students during today’s chapel (1/17) – getting everyone geared up and ready for #NLSW2018!

Our third graders have been doing a lot of #handsonlearning with classroom STEM projects – things like building a catapult with rubber bands and Popsicle sticks as well as building the tallest tree with just five sheets of newspaper and tape.

Our student council hosted an anti-bully week at ZLS in early December. Council students took time each day of the week to teach our younger students about kindness and how to treat each other. The week wrapped with a fun, peaceful pajama day. What did you do to show kindness today?

Congratulations to our girls and boys volleyball teams, placing 3rd and 7th at the 2017 Lutheran Sports Association of Illinois State Volleyball Championship. Way to go, #ZionLions!

Second place finish for our boys team and 4th place finish for our girls team at the Lutheran Sports Association of Illinois State Cross Country Meet. And that’s not all…we had three, top-15 finishers on the boys side and a 13th place finisher overall on our girls team. It was an historic day for ZLS XC and now, both of our teams are heading to the National Lutheran Schools Cross Country Championships for the first time ever.

2017 Boys and Girls Cross Country Conference Champions and a new school record in the two mile run by one of our eighth grade boys.

Our Reading Lab has officially opened with a “ribbon cutting” the week of Sept. 29, 2017.  It is with great joy that we get to offer this new and enhanced reading instruction for our K-2nd graders. Each week, the students receive guided reading on a book that fits his/her level in small groups. Reading strategies, word building, sight words, and correct writing is also worked on. The goal is for each student to go up a level every couple of weeks, showing progress at the right speed for individualized learning.

Check out our fifth graders doing an #Eclipse2017 dance! Way to go, Zion Lions!
