Athletics

In our small-school environment, students are supported not only by their teachers, but also by coaches and peers. Through participation in Zion Lutheran School’s robust athletic programs, we put God first in all circumstances. Zion athletes learn that being a responsible, caring selfless teammate is important not only to our team’s success, but also to our school, our athletic program, and to our church and school ministry.

Our athletics program strive to instill a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship while encouraging fitness and nutrition habits that can last a lifetime. Displaying a positive Christian attitude to fellow athletes, coaches and officials is expected. Above all, our student-athletes get to be what they are – God’s people.

A ZLS student athlete will conduct him/herself in such a manner as to be recognized not only as an athlete but also, more importantly, as a Christian (II Timothy 2:5).

Zion Lutheran School participates in the Lutheran Sports Association of Illinois (LSA) and has won multiple conference championships and state championships. Additionally, our programs regularly compete in the National Lutheran Sports Association competitions

ZLS student-athletes will:

  • Reflect his/her faith in Christ
  • Strive to be a better player today than he/she was yesterday
  • Play hard all of the time, regardless of the score
  • Respond positively to coaching suggestions and constructive feedback because this is how improvement happens.
  • Practice and play fairly, giving complete effort in all circumstances and credit in victory to teammates and to opponents in defeat
  • Meet all attendance and academic requirements
  • Have fun!
  • Demonstrate respect for opponents and officials before, during and after contests.
