Lynae (Mathews) Hoercher, Teacher at Zion and Alum

“My name is Lynae Hoercher and my Zion story is very special to me. I grew up going to Zion Church where every Sunday was a family affair. My grandparents, aunt and uncle, cousins and my immediate family have all attended church at Zion and/or went to school here. In 2018, I was blessed with the opportunity to return to Zion and teach fourth grade in the same classroom I had 4th grade! Returning to Zion felt like I was coming home. I love this school and the feeling of family you get by being a part of it.”

Liz Krulick – mom of three current Zion Lions and one alum

“We are an Air Force family with four children, and when we move to a new area, deciding upon a school is one of our top priorities. Three years ago, we moved to Belleville and Zion Lutheran School came highly recommended from another Air Force family we knew well. Zion has been an incredible learning experience for our children and a wonderful community for our entire whole family. The teachers, coaches, administration, and staff are dedicated to supporting and caring for the whole child academically, athletically, socially and spiritually. Building up the students to be able to live out their faith is of highest importance at Zion and they achieve this by weekly chapel services, daily prayer and religion lessons. I have especially enjoyed the student led chapel services. My children have also benefited greatly at a young age from the emphasis on learning how to work hard to accomplish a goal, teamwork and sportsmanship through Zion’s sports programs. They have enjoyed the opportunity to compete, make friends and have fun the whole family can enjoy. I believe the reason Zion is so special is because of the people. As a welcoming community of believers with a passion for education, we have felt like a part of the family from the first day.”

Tricia Burge – mom of current Zion Lion and one ZLS alum

“Our family chose Zion Lutheran School because of its long history of providing a high quality, affordable education coupled with a Christ-centered approach to teaching not just an engaging and challenging curriculum, but also wholly dedicated to reinforcing strong morals and values. And we could not be more pleased with our choice. While certainly a solid foundation for any child begins at home, the lessons our children have learned at Zion will guide them for a lifetime.”

Eric and Kayla Pounds – parents of five Zion Lions

“We are a military family with 5 children, so to be honest, the reason we chose Zion isn’t why we stayed. Zion offered a one-stop drop-off for all our children, which was extremely convenient. However, when we saw that the staff and teachers truly manifested their personal and organizational center in Christ, we could not put a price on this incredible blessing. The teachers regularly pray over our children and their education. Most importantly, they care about my sons’ souls, as evidenced by their vision statement: that every child knows Jesus as their personal savior. I find it incredibly comforting to send my children to a place where they will receive a solid education and love daily through trusted professionals who follow Jesus.”

Crystal Dallas – mom of two Zion Lions

“Our children’s education is very important to us. We wanted a school that would nurture their mind, body and spirit. Before visiting Zion Lutheran School, we conducted extensive research and visited several other area schools. We attended an open house event at Zion Lutheran School and there was just a feeling of belonging. Everyone was so welcoming, and we truly felt that we had found the “right place” for our children. At Zion, we know our children are receiving an excellent education while growing in their faith and love of God every day.  Our children are thriving academically and socially in the loving environment of Zion. We highly recommend Zion for families looking to develop well-rounded, creative, and kind humans.”

Suzanne Bollmeier – mom of two Zion Lions

“We chose Zion because we were interested in a school that provides not only excellent academic offerings, but also a strong Lutheran foundation. Our kids have flourished at Zion thanks to a strong curriculum, but also have grown in their Lutheran faith along the way. We couldn’t ask for anything more and feel blessed to be a part of the Zion family.”

Kelly Skaff, mom of five Zion Lions

“When our oldest child was starting Kindergarten, we chose Zion for the small class sizes. At that time, we had no idea we were also becoming part of a wonderful community. Zion has given our children challenging academics, the opportunity to play team sports, a great music program including band, choir, and private music lessons, and enriching opportunities for public speaking through plays and leading chapel. Most importantly, Zion has helped our children build a strong faith foundation. The Zion teachers and staff know each of our kids as individuals, and they care deeply about helping each child grow in their faith and love of Jesus Christ. Zion has done a wonderful job preparing our children both academically and spiritually for high school and beyond. Zion is family to us.”

Jennika Denery, mom of one Zion Lion

“We are so thankful to be part of Zion! We chose Zion because the peace of our child is our top priority, and Zion brings solid education with foundational truth which encourages peace in her life and the lives of all Zion students. Our experience with Zion has been above par in every way and we have felt welcomed and listened to by every member of the staff and faculty. Our child has peace and has fun learning and connecting with all the other students, as well as the staff. They all know her by name. And because of the standard of excellence in education and faith, we also have peace sending her to school every day.”

Jenn Pagan, mom of two Zion Lions

“We chose Zion five years ago, after touring and learning about all the opportunities they offered our children not only educationally, but spiritually and physically as well. Since then, our children have flourished. They enjoy the variety of classes offered in addition to basic studies, such as music, art, P.E., religion and enrichment. They love participating in Zion sports and band. We also love the opportunities Zion gives to be out in the community; whether it may be service projects or field trips, Zion gives kids the opportunity to be involved. My favorite part has been our family becoming closer to God and finding a church home with Zion. At Zion I know our children are cherished, loved and are given the best education in the area. We couldn’t be happier about our decision.”

Phallisha Curtis, mom of one Zion Lion

“Our son has attended Zion since pre-school and he is now in junior high. We chose Zion based upon the recommendation of family friends whose children attended Zion. We liked the pre-school, before and after school child care, academic and extra-curricular options all grounded in Christian love. He has been taught and nurtured by teachers, administrators and staff who love their work and the Lord. We are thankful that he is growing academically and spiritually. We feel his studies at Zion have prepared him for high school, enriched his faith walk and given him friendships and memories to grow with.”

Lance and Michelle Rensing, family with two Zion Lions

“Our family moved from Florida and a small charter school to Belleville and a year of public school. Public school was not conducive to our son’s learning style or challenge level. Our niece attended Zion from preschool through 8th grade and had nothing but positive things to say about attending Zion. We chose Zion after we toured the school with our son and talked with teachers and students. We have another student in Zion’s preschool and are very satisfied with the level of education and support our children receive in a Lutheran Christian setting. We definitely recommend Zion for a wonderful, Christian-based education!”

Becky Bertram, mom of three Zion Lions

“We chose Zion because we wanted our kids to go to a school where they would be encouraged to grow in their relationship with God, and where each of our three children could receive a unique education, tailored to their individual needs. Now in our fourth year as Zion parents, we are thankful on a daily basis for the personal care and love that Zion’s teachers and staff pour out on our children, and we are blessed to be a part of the larger Zion family.”

Amber Morthland, mom of one Zion Lion

“We were not happy with our current school district option and chose to look into private schools. Zion was one of the schools that many parents I spoke with suggested for a great private school. We went to the open house and knew before we left that would be the school Summer would attend. It was warm, friendly and everyone was so outgoing and genuine. The staff at Zion make you feel welcome and I know that they genuinely care about my daughter and her future. I never have to worry about my daughter when she walks through those doors. It is safe and my daughter loves learning about Jesus. Best decision we ever made for her and our family.”
