Physical Education
Incorporating physical fitness into our every day at ZLS is the goal of our physical education, or PE, program. We believe we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.
Our program builds on spatial awareness and motor development that is taught in early childhood through skills developed with games, group interaction and friendly competition as our students grow through elementary school.
As students get older, coordination skills through activities that promote individual fitness and exercise, specific skill introduction and new and unique games is introduced.
In addition to three recess periods a day, our K-2 students get 30 minutes of teacher-led PE once a week. Starting in first grade, our students get PE twice a week in addition to two recess periods, and by 5th-8th grade, PE takes place three times a week (one recess after lunch) as well as health class is taught once a week.
Extracurricular sports begin as early as fourth grade and involve cross country, basketball, volleyball and track. Large portions of our students participate in these teams and play against other private Lutheran and parochial schools in our region.
