Our History
One of the oldest schools in our community, Zion Lutheran School Belleville was founded in 1861 as a mission of Zion Lutheran Church. Our school was founded on the tradition of a Christ-centered approach to education and nurturing a child’s faith, equipping him/her to use it on a daily basis and to share it with others. As the church grew, so did the school, with enrollment numbers close to 100 by 1891.
Fast forward 60 years, and a brand new campus was established, with a church and school built on the corner of Carlyle Ave. and McClintock in east Belleville. This is where our school remains, with many upgrades and additions having been made, including a brand-new wing built in 2001 which included 11 new classrooms.
Today, our school welcomes hundreds of children through its doors daily and our church and school leadership continue to evaluate curriculum, programs and needs of students to make the most sound and thoughtful decisions, impacting not only today’s students but those in the years to come.
