Alumni Spotlight – Joy (Tucker) Hayward

At Zion Lutheran School, we are proud of our alumni and their accomplishments. It is our goal to bring you an Alumni Spotlight each week to highlight what our past Zion Lions have been up to!
Student:
Joy (Tucker) Hayward
Hometown:
Belleville
Current residence:
Belleville
Years at Zion:
Pre-K – 8; 1972/3-1983
Favorite Memory:
My favorite memories were playing sports (volleyball, softball, track) and being in Youth Group, but there were also the everyday moments that I will never forget – like moving to the next level in the Spelling Bee, having to learn to spell “Schmieding” for a spelling test in 7th grade, or Mr. Benke making us laugh every day in 3rd grade.
What she has been up to:
I am a Litigation Paralegal with USTRANSCOM and a member of the US Air Force JAG Corps. I’m blessed to be married to Norm for almost 24 years. Together we have 6 kids, 8 grandkids and another on the way this August. I am a new member of the Zion School Advisory Board; served as an Associate Board Member for Scott Credit Union and recently graduated cum laude from SIU-Carbondale.
How did your time at ZLS influence you?
I am still in contact with many of my former teachers and classmates. It’s a family that just keeps growing! The mentors and relationships formed at Zion truly molded me into who I am today. Not only did Zion give me a firm foundation to build my faith on, but it was also a place that taught me to be kind and compassionate to others.
