Zion’s Reading Lab provides small group guided reading instruction for all of our kindergarten through second-grade students. Students come to the reading lab 4 times a week for 30 minutes per class. Each day of the reading lab has a specific lesson plan that targets leveled reading, word work, comprehension, and writing.Volunteers are pivotal to the lab! Volunteers work alongside teachers to facilitate a small group using the lesson plans provided. Groups rotate every 2 weeks so all teachers and volunteers get a chance to work with all students at all reading levels. The reading lab takes place from 8:30 to 10:20 am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Two volunteers are needed each day for the lab to run. Parents, grandparents, extended family members, or those with any interest in working with students on their reading are encouraged to volunteer.Interested volunteers may fill out a volunteer form below:https://forms.gle/ndDkftLq35SpxQmM7If you have any questions about being a volunteer please contact Jamie Lewis (Zion’s Resource Teacher) at jlewis@zionschoolbelleville.org or by calling 618-234-0275.

Here are a few new items to share regarding new happenings at ZLS for the upcoming school year!
Sensory Area and Path…New Staff…Donation Bins and More. Read more to find out more details.
1) Sensory Area and Path: Thanks to two ZLS parents, our school now has a sensory area and path for our students. Children will be able to step, hop, skip, jump and more on our sensory pathways, building motor skills, sharpening cognitive functioning all while using the five senses.
2) Donation Stations: There will be designated donation stations set up at both the main school entrance and Alongside Commons where you will put donations when requested by our staff and committees. Look for the bins that will be clearly labeled and when we ask for donations for the annual auction, Mouse House and more, items can be placed in those bins.
3) Hallway Decorations: Thanks to our Art Coordinator and some helpful ZLS alumni, we have some beautiful art that is going up around our hallways. Be on the lookout for decals, paintings and much more that will help to beautify our school.
4) New Staff: Welcome Brittany Pellman as our new preschool teacher as well as Katy Bates and Mandy Pyles who join our staff as preschool aides.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Eighth grade year is one of the most memorable school years for our #ZionLions. Some of these students have been with us since they were three years old, others have come to ZLS throughout the years, but the friendships and memories made will last a lifetime.
Congratulations Class of 2020

It’s a tradition unique to Zion and a favorite. The Advanced Choir performance of Voice of Truth sung tonight at our 8th grade graduation with current students and alumni.
